Children from the summer Qur’an courses in Sliven region participated in a Regional Competition in Basic Knowledge in Islam

Regional Mufti’s Office – Sliven held a Regional Competition in Basic Knowledge in Islam, which took place on August 29 (Thursday) this year. Children from five from the nine Qur’an courses held in the region during the past months of July and August, took part in it.

At the beginning of the program the hosts from Regional Mufti’s Office – Sliven welcomed all participants, teachers and guests and informed them about all details of the regulation of the competition.

The format of the regional competition included four rounds in total in the framework of which the students from the summer Qur’an courses had to demonstrate their practical and theoretical knowledge in Islam. In the first round they took a test, in the second round they answered orally religious questions. The aim of the third round was to check the practical preparation of the children in the different fields of the religion. In the last part of the competition the participants recited by heart verses from the Qur’an.

The knowledge of all participants from the region of Sliven were assessed by a jury, which consisted on: Akif Akifov – Regional Mufti of Sliven, Mehmedali Patarla – Member of the Supreme Muslim Council and present imam of the village of Yablanovo, as well as Selim Ilhan – guest-imam from the Republic of Turkey at the Mufti’s Office in Sliven

When the jury finished with the assessment it officially announced the names of the finalists. At first place was ranked a child from the Qur’an course in the town of Nova Zagora, at second place – a student of the Qur’an course in Yambol and at third place – also a student from the summer Qur’an course in Yambol.

On behalf of Regional Mufti’s Office – Sliven the winners received awards and cash prizes. Awards also were given to all other participants in the Regional Competition in Basic knowledge in Islam.
