XIV Regional Competition in Basic Knowledge in Islam was held in Shumen

Regional Competition in Basic Knowledge in Islam was held for a fourteenth consecutive yearon August 28 in the city of Shumen.

The program was opened with recitation of Qur’an-i Kerim and continued with a greeting address of Mesut Mehmedov – Regional Mufti of the city of Shumen and a host of the event.

In the competition for knowledge participated 42 students in total and it was held in four rounds. The first round was a test. The second stage was oral where the students had to answer two questions related to faith and worship. In the third round the competitors answered questions related to Sirah and Akhlaq. In the last round they recited parts of Qur’an-i Kerim.

The jury of the competition consisted of the following members: Dr. Osman Ibrahimov – teacher at Religious School “Nyuvvab” – Shumen, Orhan Basri – specialist at “Irshad” Department at Regional Mufti’s Office – Shumen, and Nihat Shaban – imam khatib of the village of Zagoriche, Municiaplity of Kaolinovo.

The students from the summer Qur’an courses varied the program of the competition with performances of ilyahi (religious songs) and recitation of religious poems.

After the ranking which the team of the jury did, the presenter of the competition announced the results.

At first place was ranked Soner Aydan Osman – student from the town of Kaolinovo, Kus quarter, with a teacher Gyullyu Ahmed. At second place was ranked Ildaray Gyunay Irfan, student from the village of Hitrino with a teacher Hyuliya Salieva, and at third place – Ravza Sali Basri from the village of Kapitan Petko with a teacher Nevrie Osman.

Regional Mufti’s Office – Shumen provided gifts for all participants in the competition.

The prize for the one who ranked at first place was a bicycle. The prize for the second place was a tablet, and for the third place – a watch. In addition to these awards the winners also received certificates, as well as cash prizes.

After the competition all guests – participants, teachers and other attendees were offered lunch, provided by the Muslim Board of Trustees – city of Shumen.
