Meeting for expressing appreciation
The Chairman of the Supreme Muslim Council Vedat S. Ahmed invited to a meeting the members of the National Council of the Religious Communities in Bulgaria (NCRCB). In the meeting, which took place on April 19, 2018 at the central building of the Muslim Denomination, participated the NCRCB President Prof. Rupen Krikorian, the Secretary Pastor Evgeni Naydenov, the members of the Board Father Petko Valkov and the Deputy Grand Mufti Birali Birali.
The meeting was driven by the expressed position of the NCRCB in connection with the statement of Prosecutor N. Popova, with which the Council called upon the responsible institutions to refer the issue to themselves, to take the relevant measures with regard to the statements inciting religious intolerance in the country, and said that “Bulgaria is a sovereign country, composed of people with different ethnicities and religions, born and living in it. None of the ethnicities and religions can be a threat to the national security of the country.” With this declaration the NCRCB supported the open letter of the Supreme Muslim Council adopted at an extraordinary meeting on April 3.
During the meeting Mr. Ahmed thanked the leadership of the NCRCB for the adequate and timely position, which was adopted and published the very same day when the open letter of the Supreme Muslim Council was published. He highlighted the need of common actions against the antireligious acts, especially against those that are hate-motivated.
Prof. Krikorian said the NCRCB has a very good cooperation with the Muslim Denomination and works for establishing a tolerant atmosphere in the country. He urged the state’s institutions to appreciate these efforts.
The participants united on the understanding that they have to express together their dissatisfaction with every attempt to underminethe religious communities, because the cases of defacement of the religious places and beliefs are a lot.
