The Grand Mufti opened the newly-repaired mosque in the village of Zhizhevo

After nearly one year of repairing works the newly-repaired mosque in the village of Zhizhevo, Municipality of Satovcha, was officially opened.

The ceremony took place on February 17, 2018 (Saturday) and official guest was the Grand mufti of the Muslims in the Republic of Bulgaria Dr. Mustafa Hadzhi. Among the participants was also the host of the event and a Regional Mufti of Blagoevgrad Aydan Mohamed, also the Regional Mufti of Pazardzhik Abdullah Salih. The celebration was also attended by students from the Training school for hafizes in the town of Madan, as well as dozens of Muslims from Zhizhevo and the surrounding settlements. There was recitation of Qur’an and qurban, provided by the local Muslims.

The opening of the newly-repaired Muslim temple was combined with the commemoration of the 105th anniversary of the so called “baptismal” in the region – forcible baptism of the Muslims and changing their names with Bulgarian ones, where on February 17, 1913 in the village were slaughtered more than 250 boys and men.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the tragic event, which took the lives of almost all men in the village – after the opening of the repaired mosque in Zhizhevo the guests met together at the place of the massacres, where they made a dua (supplication) for the victims.

“The mosque in Zhizhevo has also been burnt several times in the period of the “baptismal”. And despite of the fact that it was working to the last moment, the building was in a poor condition. During the repair the mosque was fortified. Тhere was built а bulkhead so that to strengthenalso the site itself on which the building is located. Al this happened with the personal means of the local population” – shared for Grandmufti.bg Aydan Mohamed, Regional Mufti of Blagoevgrad.
