SUPREME MUSLIM COUNCIL ANNOUNCED YEAR 2018 FOR “YEAR OF THE YOUNG FAMILY”

The last meeting of the Supreme Muslim Council for year 2017 was held on December 27 in Shumen which is a historical religious, cultural and educational center of the Muslims in Bulgaria. During his meeting which was traditionally held in the last days of the year, the members of the collective body of the Muslim Denomination discussed current and important issues related to the religious, financial and administrative development of the institution.

Along with this the Supreme Muslim Council approved the proposed project to announce year 2018 as a “Year of the young family”. This aims to put focus on the family and especially formation of young families, because recently is observed a tendency for avoiding the responsibility for family formation. This itself causes social and demographic problems that are damaging to the entire society.

With regard to announcing the new initiative the Chairman of the Supreme Muslim Council Vedat Ahmed said: “In connection with this the religious institutions that are called upon to bless, support and strengthen the families, have an important role for building a society of strong families. Including the Muslim Denomination with its wide range of possibilities itcould contribute to forming families of young people, and not only of the young, because today we see lonely elderly people who cannot find the right people with whom to share their joy and sorrow in the advanced lonely years”. He also added that “forming young families is a great investment for the future. With their energy and activity, but also with their responsible behavior, they will contribute to the development of the Muslim community, the Bulgarian society and in general to the preservation and the development of the mankind, the humanity.”

For implementation and coordination of the activities related to the announced “Year of the young family” the Council elected five-member committee which will adopt its working plan in the middle of the next month and will periodically report.
