Training workshop for employees of the Muslim Denomination took place in Shumen

On December 24-25, 2017 in the city of Shumen took place the fifth national training workshop for the employees of the Muslim Denomination.

The program began with welcoming speeches on behalf of the host of the event the Regional Mufti of Shumen Mesut Mehmedov, the SMC Chairman Vedat S. Ahmed and the Grand Mufti Dr. Mustafa Hadzhi.

“These events above all aim to see where we are and besides this to rally us even more. Because people are rallied when they are together. We are here to see what we have achieved and to outline new parameters” said the Grand Mufti.

After that he delivered his lecture on the topic “The Muslim Denomination in the Republic of Bulgaria and the contemporary challenges it faces”.

According to Dr. Hadzhi the institution of Grand Mufti’s Office has obligations towards the entire Bulgarian society. And as one of the most important tasks in front of the Denomination has always been to “interpret the postulates of religion into an understandable for the society language”.

The Secretary General Dzhelyal Faik spoke on the topic “Institutional protocol” and the SMC Chairman Vedar Ahmed delivered a lecture on the topic “Difficulties and opportunities for the religious development of the Muslim community in Bulgaria”.

According to him the key driver in the development in the Muslim community in Bulgaria is education. As a difficulty however he shows the still pending issue with regard to the civil society as a whole and the insufficient trust between the members of the society and the Muslim community in it.

And in addition to this, Vedat Ahmed said, the social instability in the country also has an impact on the status of the community.

After the lectures there was discussed and adopted aschedule for 2018.

On December 25 the departments at the Muslim Denomination and the regional mufti’s offices presented their activity reports for year 2017 and discussed future projects for year 2018.
