Representatives of the Muslim Denomination honored the commemorative event of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in our country, which took place on February 24 (Monday) this year.
The Grand Mufti of the Muslims in the Republic of Bulgaria Dr. Mustafa Hadzhi, the Chairman of the Supreme Muslim Council (SMC) Vedat Ahmed and the Secretary General of Grand Mufti’s Office Dzhelal Faik attended the official opening of the commemorative exhibition of painters from Azerbaijan, organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Bulgaria. It is dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the tragic events in Khojaly that happened in February 1992.
The host of the commemorative event Her Excellency Nargiz Gurbanova presented to all the guests information about the details of the act of genocide against the innocent and helpless Azerbaijani people in 1992. According to the sad statistics, cited by Gurbanova at the event yesterday, all 613 residents of Khojaly, 106 from whom women, 63 children and 70 elderly people were killed. 487 were injured, 1275 – taken hostages, and the fate of 150 people is still unknown. Eight entire families are completely lost. In the Khojaly tragedy, also known in our country as “Khojaly Massacre”, 130 children lost one of their parents, and 25 lost both their parents. This is the largest massacre in the course of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict that continued between 1988 and 1994.
