Grand Mufti’s Office officially submitted to MES for approval the new textbooks for the subject “Religion – Islam”
On January 30 (Thursday), 2020, Grand Mufti’s Office of the Muslims in the Republic of Bulgaria officially submitted for approval to the Ministry of Education and Science in Bulgaria the new textbooks for studying the subject “Religion – Islam” in the state schools in the country.
For their preparation was working a specially formed for this purpose preparatory commission. Its members were Amir Feleti, Nazmie Kulova, Dr. Osman Ibrahimov, Dr. Selime Hasanova, Muhammed Kamber, Beyhan Mehmed, Alper Ahmed and Gyulgyun Gaygadzhova. Head of the project was the Deputy Grand Mufti Ahmed Hasanov who is in charge in the field of “Education”, and editor-in-chief was Murad Boshnak.
“The textbooks that we submitted for approval to MES, are for students from 1 to 5 grade, incl. They all are written according to the latest curricula, approved by the Ministry of Education and Science in Bulgaria. We expect to receive an official statement on behalf of MES in connection with the new prepared textbooks by the end of this school year, 2019/2020. If they are approved we plan the teaching in “Religion – Islam” with them to begin in the new school year, 2020/2021, in September.” – commented for Grandmufti.bg the head of the Department on Education at Grand Mufti’s Office Amir Feleti.
According to him the committee continues its work on the preparation of the content of the textbooks in “Religion – Islam” for the students from 6 to 12 grade. Currently, during the school year 2019/2020 more than 2600 students from 1 to 12 grade have been studying the subject “Religion – Islam” in the state schools in our country under the form of Optional Elective Subject and Compulsory Elective Subject. For comparison, during the school year 2017/2018 the subject “Religion – Islam” was studied by 2190 students. One of the priorities in the activities of the Department on Education at Grand Mufti’s Office is exactly in this direction – to provide the possibility for studying the subject “Religion – Islam” for more and in new places in the country and increasing the number of the students who would benefit from this opportunity.
