For a first time in its history Regional Mufti’s Office – Haskovo held a cultural program focused on the local traditions and customs

 

Nearly 200 guests from Haskovo and the region gathered for the first of its kind, organized by Regional Mufti’s Office – Haskovo, cultural program, presenting the local Turkish traditions and customs. It took place on December 27, 2019 in “Retro” Hotel in the town of Haskovo.

Official guests of the program were the Chairman of the Supreme Muslim Council (SMC) Vedat Ahmed, the Deputy Grand Mufti Ahmed Hasanov, the Social Affairs Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Bulgaria Mehmet Genç, as well as representatives of the Consulate General of Turkey in Plovdiv. The event was also attended by the regional muftis of Plovdiv and Kardzhali – Taner Veli and Beyhan Mehmed, municipal mayors, MPs and others.

As a host of the event the Regional Mufti of Haskovo Basri Eminefendi welcomed the guests, and briefly told about the organized program focusing on that the idea is its organization to become a tradition and to happens also in the future.

The SMC Chairman Vedat Ahmed also delivered a brief speech to the guests in which he addressed the topic about the culture and its significance in the life of the people, and urged not to forget our lifestyle and traditions.

“The program consisted of two parts – the first part was with the participation of the children from the year-round Qur’an courses in the villages of Golemantsi and Stamboliyski. They participated with a presentation of theater plays, showing the local traditions and customs, recitation of poetry as well as traditional folklore performances. The second part of the program included traditional Turkish music performances, presented by a visiting folklore group from the town of Kardzhali” – commented for Grandmufti.bg the secretary of Regional Mufti’s Office – Haskovo Suray Mustafa.

According to him there was an extremely great interest in the cultural event.

“The aim of carrying out this first of its kind program was to present different moments from the Turkish lifestyle, culture and traditions in the region, part of which are already forgotten. But we hope that with such initiatives to revive and keep them alive.” – further added Suray Mustafa from the mufti’s office in Haskovo.
