For another year the Day of Ashura was celebrated in the city center of Plovdiv

For another year Regional Mufti’s Office – Plovdiv celebrated the Day of Ashura by sharing the holiday with people of different ethnicities and religions in the center of the city under the hills. The kind of celebration took place at the square in front of the central mosque “Murat Hyudavendigyar” in Plovdiv on September 13 (Friday), 2019. The initiative was jointly organized with the Muslim Board of Trustees – Plovdiv, chaired by Ahmed Pehlivan.

Among the official guests of the event were the Regional Governor of Plovdiv Zdravko Dimitrov, the Secretary General of the Regional administration – Plovdiv Borislav Dimov, the Chairperson of the Municipal Council in Plovdiv Savina Petkova, as well as the Chairperson of the Association of Bulgarian and Turkish Businessmen “Bultish” Donka Koleva. The event was also attended by the Mayor of the Municipality of Chepelare Slavka Chakarova, the Mayor of the Turkish Municipality of Marmara Süleyman Aksoy, as well as by representatives of the various ethnicities represented in “Zaedno” Foundation.

The host and s Regional Mufti of Plovdiv Taner Veli welcomed all guests and the Consul General of Turkey in Bulgaria Hüseyin Ergani told all participants about the meaning and the importance of the Day of Ashura in the Islamic religion.

All guests and passersby at “Dzhumaya Mosque” square in Plovdiv were treated with the traditional Turkish dessert “Ashure”, which symbolizes sharing, abundance and grace.
