First iftar-dinner in the old mosque of Sevlievo in 30 years
After nearly 30 years, during which the old mosque in the town of Sevlievo was not functioning as a Muslim temple, since several months it has returned again to the religious life. This happened thanks to the present imam, who works in it – Nuri Aksom.
In connection with this on May 9 (Thursday) this year in the old mosque of Sevlievo was organized the first iftar-dinner after an interruption of 30 years. It was given by the Regional Mufti’s Office – Veliko Tarnovo and brought together nearly 60 Muslims from the town and the neighboring settlements.
“Official guests of the festive iftar-dinner in the old mosque of Sevlievo were the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Plovdiv Hüseyin Ergani and Metin Akbaş – social affairs attaché at the Turkish consulate in Plovdiv. There also participated the Regional Mufti of Veliko Tarnovo Syuleyman Masurev and the guest-imam at the mufti’s office in Tarnovo, who is from the Republic of Turkey – Ridvan Adıyaman.” – shared for Grandmufti.bg the Secretary of Regional Mufti’s Office – Veliko Tarnovo Yashar Mehmedov – “The iftar went very well and the participants were very excited by the fact that it is held in the mosque from the times of the Ottoman Empire. And even more that after a 30-year interruption the old mosque of Sevlievo is again functioning today.“ – further added Mehmedov.
Before proceeding with the Ramadan dinner the participants were welcomed by the host Syuleyman Masurev. He introduced the official guests and then the floor was given to Metin Akbaş, who greeted the community on behalf of the General Consulate of the Republic of Turkey in Plovdiv.
