The assault against the mosque of Sofia “Banya Bashi”: Seven years later

Seven years ago, during the Friday prayer on May 20, 2011, a bloody assault was committed against the only mosque in Sofia – “Banya Bashi” and the people in it. There were injured among the Muslims – peaceful citizens who had come on Friday to perform their religious duties. Prayer rugs were burnt… One of the injured Muslims on May 20 brought proceedings against the Bulgarian state beforethe European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg because our country refused to recognize his rights of injured party… and won it.

Seven years later Grand Mufti’s Office of the Muslim in the Republic of Bulgaria will recall this disgraceful assault by a public discussion.

Grand Mufti’s Office invites everyone who wishes to attend the “Discussion on the occasion of the 7^th anniversary of the assault against the mosque of Sofia “Banya Bashi”, which will take place on May 20, 2018 from 19:00 o’clock in the Center for Media And Culture of Grand Mufti’s Office in the capital – 3 Pirotska Str.

Speakers of the discussion will be Dr. Sefer Hasanov – lecturer at the High Islamic Institute, Prof. Evgeniya Ivanova – lecturer at the New Bulgarian University. Moderator of the discussion will be Dr. Ahmed Lyutov, representative of the Muslim Denomination.
