Regional Mufti’s Office – Plovdiv marked the Ashura Day with a festive celebration in the city center

The Ashura Day was festively celebrated in the city under the hills on 6^th of October, 2017 (Friday). It took place before the Friday prayer service in front of the central mosque “Murat Hyudavendigyar”.

Organizer of the celebration in Plovdiv, that brought together representatives of different ethnic groups, nationalities and religions, was Regional Mufti’s Office – Plovdiv. Among the official guests who honored the event, were the Deputy Mayor of the major municipality of Plovdiv, the Chairman of the Municipal Council and also representatives of the local authorities.

The marking of the Ashura Day was also honored by the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Plovdiv Hussein Ergani, the Chairman of Foundation “Together”, as well as representatives of the Russian, Armenian, Jewish and Italian communities in the city.

As a host the Regional Mufti of Plovdiv Taner Veli informed all participants about the important events from the Islamic history that happened on the Ashura Day and focused on the importance of this day for the Muslims.

After that all guest were invited to taste the traditional dessert Äshure”.

“The dessert “Ashure” is a symbol of sharing, love, abundance and grace. Due to this it is also called “meal of peace”.”- further explained the host Taner Veli.
