The mosque of Ibrahim Pasha and “Ibrahim Pasha” mosque in Razgrad
The monograph treats two mosques in Razgrad, related to the name of the grand vizier Ibrahim Pasha (1493 – 1536). The older one was built by him during 1533. Due to an unknown reason so far it is destroyed in the beginning of XVII century. The other mosque was built on the old one and was named “Ibrahim Pasha” because it was a part of the waqf of the grand vizier.
The study includes a copy and a translation with comments of a document (waqfname) with which in 1533 the waqf (foundation) of Ibrahim pasha in Razgrad was established. Main place in the book has the second mosque. Its dating, cultural and historical profile and architectural décor are commented. A special attention is paid also to other buildings near the old and the new mosque, such as the hammam, the fountain Bashpanar and the clock tower in the city. The edition includes 30 plans and drawings as well as appendix with 120 color and black-white illustrations.
The book has interdisciplinary character and is the first of this kind in the Bulgarian humanities full anthropological study of one of the many Ottoman architectural complexes on our lands. It is intended for students and doctoral candidates humanitarians as well as for all who are interested in Ottoman cultural heritage (architecture and art), preserved today in Bulgaria.
