Grand Mufti took part in celebrations on the occasion of May 24

Creation and dissemination of Cyrillic alphabet is among the most valuable contributions of Bulgarians to the world culture and civilization, President Rosen Plevneliev said in his speech on the occasion of May 24 - Day of Bulgarian Enlightenment and Culture and Slavonic Alphabet. The head of state was a host in the National History Museum of the traditional reception on the occasion of the holiday that brought together teachers, figures of science, culture and education.

Among the official guests was also the Grand Mufti Dr. Mustafa Hadzhi. Earlier in the day at the celebrations on the occasion of the holiday in front of the National Library “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” he was represented by his first deputy and acting Chairman of the Supreme Muslim Council Vedat Ahmed, and the Secretary General Ahmed Ahmedov.

"The Cyrillic alphabet is what distinguishes us, but the Cyrillic alphabet is also what unites us. It makes us part of Europe and its values, makes us part of all peoples of the world who use it," the President said. Rosen Plevneliev stressed that on this bright holiday we are proud to be a nation with a mission and future, created its own alphabet, given literacy and enlightenment of many other nations.
