The Supreme Muslim Council awards the prize “Hodzhazade” also in 2019

 

This year the Supreme Muslim Council (SMC) once again will award the prizes for contribution named after Hodzhazade Mehmed Muhyiddin Efendi.

This topic was addressed during the meeting of the special committee at the Council, held on May 8, 2019 in Sofia. The Committee chaired by the SMC Chairman Vedat S. Ahmed and its members the Regional Mufti of Aytos Selyatin Muharem and the lecturer from the High Islamic Institute Aydan Yumerov, discussed the experience from the previous year for awarding the prizes “Hodzhazade Mehmed Muhyiddin Efendi” 2018.

The special committee revised the regulations for awarding the prizes and set as deadline for presenting the nomination for the present year September 30, 2019.

The already popular “Hodzhazade Mehmed Muhyiddin Efendi” Award was established in 2016 and presented for a first time in 2017. It is given every year for contribution to the development of the Muslim Denomination and of the Muslim community in general in the Republic of Bulgaria. The award is named after Hodzhazade Mehmed Muhyiddin Effendi, who is the first Grand Mufti of the Muslims in Bulgaria, elected on December 8, 1910. Then the Grand Mufti’s Office began operating. The award consists of a plaque, certificate and a cash amount and is given to no more than 5 persons a year.

The only annual award of the Muslim Denomination will be given to members of the Muslim community in Bulgaria and other citizens who are concerned with the problems of the Muslim Denomination. Reason for awarding the prize can be long standing activity in the structures of the Muslim Denomination, a high moral deed or an act for achievement wider recognition or the development of its work, implementation of an unique or exemplary project, publication of a work, carrying out a study or implementation of a project and other significant activities related to the development of the Denomination.

According to the approved regulations the motivated nominations for awarding the prize shall be done by the imams, the members of the Muslim boards of trustees, the regional Muslim councils and the Supreme Muslim Council, the Muslim schools, the regional mufti’s offices and Grand Mufti’s Office, as well as by a petition by the members of the Muslim community in Bulgaria.

The motivated proposals have to be submitted to the secretariat of the Council in writing till September 30, 2019 at the latest. They will be discussed by the Committee and then the prize laureates for 2019 will be selected.

According to the already established practice the prizes will be awarded for a third time on December 8 at an official ceremony.
