The central collective managing body of the Muslim Denomination – the Supreme Muslim Council held a special meeting on March 7, 2018 in Sofia. To participate in it were invited the managements of some of the Muslim boards of trustees in the country. These were chairmen or the authorized by them members of the so called “appointed boards of trustees”, whose management is approved by the Supreme Muslim Council according to Art. 71 (4) of the Statute of the Muslim Denomination.

The Muslim boards of trustees are local managing bodies of the Muslim Denomination. That is why for a second consecutive year the managements of the mentioned Muslim boards of trustees present reports on their activities for the past year. Besides this they report to the Muslim community and the regional mufti’s offices.

At the meeting were submitted 29 written reports and more than the half of them were heard. Among them are some of the largest and most active Muslim boards of trustees from regional cities such as Plovdiv, Shumen, Pazardzhik, Smolyan and others.

During the opening of the meeting of the Supreme Muslim Council the Chairman Vedat S. Ahmed highlighted the importance and the role of the participating representatives of the local structures from the point of view of the full functioning of the Muslim Denomination. He reminded them about their responsibility for the preservation and the development of the material heritage and the waqf property, but also for the development of the spirituality in the Muslim community. Especially he highlighted the serious need of communication with the members of the Muslim community in the big cities, the number of whom is already quite big and sometimes they got away from the community. And the Grand Mufti Mustafa Hadzhi requested from the Muslim boards of trustees to be more active in presenting the activity, performed by all structures of the Muslim Denomination from the boards of trustees to the Grand Mufti’s Office.

The managements of the Muslim boards of trustees during the presentation of their reports highlighted the importance of the coordinated activity between the structures of the Denomination, which leads to more effective results. Along with this they presented some problems that yet have to be solved, such as the maintenance of the cemeteries, repair and restoration of mosques and waqf property. The chairmen of the Muslim boards of trustees in Kyustendil and Karlovo expressed their serious concerns about ruining the mosques Fatih Mehmed and Kurshunlu in those towns. And the chairwoman of the board of trustees in Dobrich highlighted the need of improvement of the situation of the waqf property in the town.
