Regional Mufti of Montana Nedzhati Ali attended the celebrations on the occasion of Saint Nicholas' Day in the town of Vidin

 

On December 6 Christians in Bulgaria celebrate Nikulden, the holiday related to Saint Nicholas of Myra the Wonderworker. Saint Nicholas is worshiped by the Christians as a savior of captives, patron of sailors, travelers, merchants and bankers.

The holyday this year was also marked with celebrations in a number of cities in Bulgaria. On December 6, 2017 in the town of Vidin was celebrated Nikulden and the event was attended by the mayor of the town Eng. Ognyan tsenkov, the Regional Governor of Vidin Allbena Georgieva, deputy regional governors and residents of the town. The Regional Mufti of Montana Nedzhati Ali also was among the participants in the celebration of the Christian community in Vidin.

The celebration included ceremonial liturgygiven by the Archimandrite Antim and priests from the Metropolitan Churchof Vidin in the “St. Nicholas the Wonderworker” Church, where was lighted a candle-ship. From there started a procession that reached to the central pontoon of the town. In memory of all deaths were thrown memorial wreaths in the Danube River. Prior noon all guests were given festive qurban.
