Fire in a school for hafizes in Malaysia took dozens of lives

At least 25 are the victims of the fire, which broke out early in the morning on 14th of September, 2017 (Thursday) in the religious Islamic school in the capital of Malaysia Kuala Lumpur.

Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah is a school for hafizes where the students memorize the Holy Qur’an. The signal for the started fire in the building was received at the fire brigade at 5:40 o’clock local time. The fire was put out by the firefighters within an hour but unfortunately the flames had already taken 25 human lives.

According to information from Khirudin Drahman, Director of the Fire and Rescue Department in Kuala Lumpur, provided for Agence France Press, 23 of the victims are students from the school and two are teachers. The dead children are boys all at the age between 13 and 17 years old. It is supposed that they were suffocated by the smoke in the blazing fires.

The fire started from the top floor of the building where were situated the sleeping rooms and which was used as a dormitory. Having only one exit on the floor stranded the children inside the building during the unfortunate accident.

11 people managed to save themselves unharmed from the fire disaster. Other 7 were injured and sent to the nearest hospitals where to receive medical help, reported Freemalaysiatoday.com.

The reasons for the fire are yet to be clarified, but there are not assumptions for intended arson. According to information from Abu Obaidat Mohamad Saithalimat from the Fire and Rescue Department in Kuala Lumpur it is most likely that a short circuit in the electricity had caused the fire.

The fire from 14th of September in Malaysia was one of the Asian country’s worst fire disasters for the recent decades.
