It is 22 years since the genocide towards the Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica
On 11th of July, 1995 more than 8000 Bosnian Muslims were killed near Srebrenica by thy Serb militants under the leadership of Ratko Mladic. This is the largest massacres in Europe since the World War II.
On the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica the Secretary General of UN made an official statement published on the official website of UN, in which he appeals to be recognized the tragedies from the past in order not to occur in the future.
“11 July 2017 marks the 22nd anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre, the largest atrocity on European soil since the founding of the United Nations”, says Guterres in his official statement. And adds that “To help prevent future such atrocities, we must look honestly at the past, and acknowledge that these crimes occurred. The difficult task of building trust to allow for full reconciliation in Bosnia and Herzegovina lies with the people of the country’s various communities. To build a better and common future, the tragedies of the past must be recognized by those communities.”
