Meeting with Ambassador of Egypt
The Chairman of the Supreme Muslim Council Vedat S. Ahmed visited the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Sofia H.E. Manal El Shinnawi on 16th of March. The meeting was on the occasion of his participation in an international conference, held in the capital city of Egypt – Cairo in the end of the last week.
The Chairman of the central collective body of the Muslim Denomination, who was accompanied by the expert at Publishing Department Dzhemal Hatip thanked the diplomat for the invitation and her assistance in making possible his participation on the conference on the topic “The role of leaders and decision-makers in spreading the culture of peace and confronting terrorism and challenges.” He also expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Aqwaf for the nice reception and the successful organization, where were also represented the Muslims from Bulgaria. During the meeting Mr. Ahmed once again highlighted the role of Islam for spreading peace and confronting terrorism. He also pointed out the necessity of joint efforts against terrorism and radicalization for which not only the religious leaders have to work but also all politicians and all who have influence in the society.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Egypt in Sofia thanked his guest for representing the Muslim community at the international forum, organized by their governance. She expressed her satisfaction with the good relations between the Embassy and the Muslim Denomination and wished the cooperation to be developed also on a higher level. That is why Mrs. El Shinnawi pointed out that with their assistance are granted scholarships for education of students from Bulgaria in the University of Azhar and that as a result of the good relations between the Embassy and Grand Mufti’s Office during the month of Ramadan will arrive two Egyptian reciters of the Quran.
At the end of the meeting Mr. Ahmed gave his host as a gift the publications of Grand Mufti’s Office and the Supreme Muslim Council “Islam against violence” and “New trends in the social and religious thinking of the Bulgarian Muslims”.
